The Ayub and Pahlavi governments, both vying for Capitalist Bloc patronage in the Cold War, enjoyed mutually cordial relations that endured successive Pakistani governments. In 1973, Iranian and Pakistani clandestine agencies colluded to dismiss the nationalist government in Pakistani Balochistan, concocting false evidence of a Russian-backed conspiracy to dismember both Pakistan and Iran. The Pahlavi government provided 30 American-made Cobra helicopters to the Pakistani army to quell the armed Baloch resistance that followed.

A modern Indian miniature depicting the famous Rajistani romantic ballad of Dhola Maru. Dhola, married to Malwani in adulthood, comes to know he had been  betrothed to Poogal as a child. On learning of this, Dhola rushes to Poogal, surviving attempts by Malwani and Omar, a desert dacoit, to thwart the union. Reunited, Dhola and Poogal begin their journey back to Dhola's lands across the desert, during which Poogal dies of a snake bite. Overcome with grief, Dhola decides to become the first 'male sati'.
